Why we still need to talk about Unconscious Bias

Intro

The notion of unconscious bias and how it plays out surrounds us yet many of us don’t believe we have prejudices. Sadly, there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

It is relatively easy to deal with overt prejudice. It can be ignored, openly contested or excluded via legislation. The more difficult problems lie within our social structures and institutions where forms of bias have become embedded and systemic.

The purpose of this paper is to do some of the heavy-lifting for you.

Why we still need to talk about Unconscious Bias

Why we still need to talk about Unconscious Bias

In it we explore what unconscious bias is, how you can recognise it, how you can mitigate against it and what we still don’t know or fully understand about it. By assessing the evidence in the literature and research surrounding unconscious bias, our aim is to articulate a new point of view – one we hope will inform and encourage you to ask your own questions.
